UOG TOP PICK For Long-Distance Comfort and Stability: With a flexible, womens-specific suspension, excellent access, and reliable load support, the Gregory Maven 58 is built to carry big-mile kits comfortably over tough, demanding terrain.Gregory says:The Maven 58 liters was built light with superior comfort for goal-oriented thru-hikers. Sized and fitted for women, this backpack features the FreeFloat hip belt that flexes with you independent of the pack frame, so you use less energy while you hike. The Air-Cushion Mesh back panel is made of over 90% air, keeping you cool while you grind it out. Keep your essentials close with the on-the-go pocket, built for your Garmin inReach, sunglasses and snacks. A full length side-loading zipper keeps you organized while the zippered bottom sleeping bag compartment with removable divider keeps everything where it should be.Our VerdictThe Maven 58 hits a sweet spot for comfort, adjustability, and load transfer without tipping the scales too far. At just under 1700g (XS/S), its no ultralight option this is a proper gear hauler built for big loads and long days. The women’s-specific FreeFloat hipbelt flexes naturally with your movement, helping reduce fatigue over distance, while the breathable mesh back panel kept things noticeably cooler during steep, sweaty climbs. Together, they make for a carry system that feels stable yet forgiving when the terrain gets rough.Access is excellent the full-length side zip means I never had to dig from the top to reach kit buried deep in the pack. The hipbelt pockets are generous, and the stretch side pockets easily hold water bottles without a fight. I also appreciated that the compression straps run inside the mesh, rather than over it a small but thoughtful touch. The harness adjusts smoothly, and the floating lid gives quick access to important or frequently used items. It can be removed to trim a bit of weight, though it is worth noting that it houses the included rain cover. The single shoulder strap pocket is useful for snacks, sunglasses or a GPS, but I wish Gregory had mirrored it on the other side. The Maven 58 may not be the lightest pack out there, but its all-day comfort, smart features, and load stability make it a dependable choice for demanding multi-day routes or gear-dependent overnighters.- Reviewed by Ultralight Outdoor GearFeaturesFreeFloat Hybrid Suspension: Hybrid suspension featuring Gregory’s FreeFloat dynamic hipbelt and AirCushion mesh back panelFull length Side Zipper: Full length side-loading access zipper for easy unloading and gear organizationOn-The-Go Pocket: On-The-Go shoulder strap pocket designed for the Garmin inReach, your favorite trail snack, or sunglassesFreeFloat dynamic hipbelt flex panels that move with the natural movements of your bodyAdjustable torso length with AirCushion mesh backpanel that provides breathable, padded comfort3D comfort cradle adjustable hipbelt with 3D construction for hotspot free, body-hugging comfortPerforated dual density shoulder harness with sternum strap and hose clipOn-The-Go shoulder strap pocket designed for the Garmin inReach, your favorite trail snack, or sunglassesPerimeter alloy frame and fiberglass anti-barreling cross-stay for stable load management and torsional flexibilityFull length side-loading access zipper for easy unloading and gear organizationInternal hydration sleeve with SpeedClip hydration hanger compatible with Gregory’s 3D Hydro reservoir (reservoir not included)Floating top pocket with large zippered compartment and an underside zippered pocket, reflective attachment pointsand key clipDual side stretch mesh pockets, one with side trail access and pass through for over or under compressionFront oversized stretch mesh pocket with secure buckle closureQuick-pull drawcord closure and top webbing compressionZippered bottom sleeping bag compartment with removable divider
