It’s not something I would do strenuous hiking in, as it would quickly become too hot, but it’s fantastic for dog walks or just keeping the chill off on local walks. However, it will always be in my pack on any multiday hike; the instant warmth the jacket gives makes it perfect when you stop moving and don’t want your core temperature to drop. The anti-freeze has two hand-warming pockets and an internal chest pocket that can be zipped to keep valuables safe. The hood fits well and also adds an extra bit of warmth should you need it. The hood has two adjustment points around the face to keep the wind out, and the elasticated cuffs ensure a nice tight but not constrictive fit. I’m a medium in most Montane clothing and see no reason to size up or down.The jacket stuffs into a small stuff sack, which, to be honest, I don’t see myself ever bringing.
